In
August of 2008, the family of U.S. Army Specialist Gennaro
Pellegrini Jr., made a second donation of $5,000.00
dollars to South Central Camp Cadet in his memory.
In addition, Mrs. Dana Shearon has become a full-time
volunteer with the program. Her son and daughter
both attended the program in 2007 and 2008.
In early 2008, The
family of U.S. Army Specialist Gennaro Pellegrini, Jr.
donated $1,000.00 to the South Central Camp Cadet program
also in his memory. Cadet Timothy J. Shearon (Class of 2007),
York, PA (Green Platoon) is the nephew of Specialist
Pellegrini.
Specialist Pellegrini, 31, of Philadelphia; assigned to
the 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment (Mechanized),
Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Philadelphia; was killed
Aug. 9, 2005 when a mine exploded and enemy forces
attacked using small-arms fire as he was investigating a
rocket-propelled grenade incident in Bayji, Iraq. Also
killed were Pfc. Nathaniel E. Detample, Spc. John Kulick
and Sgt. Francis J. Straub Jr.
The son of a cop, Pellegrini joined the Philadelphia
Police Department in 2001 and inherited his father’s badge
number, 3722. He is survived by his parents, Edith and
Gennaro Pellegrini Sr. and two sisters,
Dana Shearon and Kimberely Petaccio.
